Here are some FAQ about our CSA


  1. Is the farm organic?
    While not "Certified Organic", we use only organic, holistic practices. These practices include Integrated Pest Management (IPM), using row-cover instead of spraying, organic low-spray techniques- a last resort, cover cropping, organic compost, organic greenhouse soil, organic granular fertilizer, increasing pollinators through planting natives and diverse plant and much more!  We abide by the rules of the NOFA Farmer’s Pledge, “a commitment to a broad set of principles that go far beyond the National Organic Program by addressing labor issues, community values and marketing. It is a commitment that either certified organic farmers or uncertified organic farmers can make to their customers and neighbors. It is not a substitute for certification, which is a service whereby a third party scrutinizes a detailed farm plan, inspects the farm, and then has the paper records of the farm reviewed by qualified peers for compliance with the regulations set forth in the NOP. We believe that the heart of sustainable agriculture is in the integrity of the farmer.”

  2. Why a flower CSA?
    Just like a vegetable CSA, by purchasing your flower share before the season begins, you allow the farmers to buy new and exciting flower seed, heat our greenhouse in the spring, and repair our equipment before we need it in them beginning in the Spring -- critical investments needed to operate a successful farm. Our CSA members commit to supporting the farmer over the season, and we commit to providing you refreshingly beautiful blooms to light up your home, office or studio.

  3. Why is the Flower CSA shorter than the Veggie CSA?
    The majority of our flowers are annuals and field grown, many of which need 75-120 days (yes, 4 months!!) before they bloom. The bulk of our flowers bloom from June-September, which is why we offer our CSA then. As the weather cools flowers bloom less, and the first hard frost will kill most of the plants. Many vegetables take fewer days to reach harvest stage, and are more cold hardy than flowers.

  4. Why sustainably grown flowers? We don’t eat them.
    To contribute to the best human health, ecosystem health, and health of our local economy. We don’t believe in using to the dangerous pesticides and chemical preservatives that are standard in the floral industry. We don’t want those chemicals exposed into our soil, groundwater, or have any desire to have our crew, our crops and community exposed either. Over 80% of flowers purchased in the US are shipped in from overseas and have a huge negative ecological footprint. Our flowers are grown right down the road from you - no planes or tractor trailers needed. If you’re going to buy flowers once a week, or once a year - support a local farm that employs local people. We make an effort to keep our money local and we hope you will too!

  5. Can CSA members purchase more of something that we like?
    Yes! We send out a update of crops we have extra of  in our weekly CSA newsletter- we sell these to you at a wholesale price. 

  6. What if we don’t want something in our share?
    Put it in the trade bin! We encourage members to trade amongst themselves - you may put an item in our trade bin and grab a different item that you want. Also, to help navigate a vegetable that you may be unfamiliar with, we provide members with weekly recipes in our newsletter. 

  7. Do you offer small shares?
    Yes, we offer Half Share options, which are $20/ week and feel 1-2 people. Additionally, if you would like to sign up for a full share with a friend, you can share it however you would like, just know that it will mean sometimes splitting a melon in half at home, or alternating who takes which veggies home each time. 

  8. What if I can’t pick up my share?
    We encourage members to send a friend or family member if they can’t pick up their share. If you email us before 9am on Saturday we can box your share so you can pick it up before Monday at 2pm in our cooler. The box will have your name on it. Shares that are left over at the end of Monday will be donated to Neighbors Helping Neighbors during their weekly pick-up of low-income CSA boxes.

  9. Do you accept volunteers?
    Absolutely! Email about volunteering. 

  10. Do you offer EBT/WIC/SNAP?
    Yes! You can drop by our pick-up locations to purchase a share for $20. First come first serve.

  11. Do I need to sign up for a Vegetable CSA share in order to be a purchase a Flower share, Meat Share or Fruit Share?

    It is not required to have a Veggie Share to sign-up for a flower share. However, it is required to have a Veggie Share if you want a Meat Share and/or any other add on shares. 

  12. What is a sliding scale?
    Below is a short list of guidelines that we're hoping will be helpful as you navigate the question of how much you can afford.

Consider paying more on the scale if youOwn the home you live in, have investments, retirement accounts, inherited money, travel recreationally, work part-time by choice, have access to family money and resources in times of need, have a relatively high degree of earning power due to level of education (or gender and racial privilege, class background, etc.) Even if you are not currently exercising your earning power, we ask you to recognize this as a choice.

Consider paying less on the scale if you: Are supporting children or have other dependents, have significant debt, have medical expenses not covered by insurance, have tuition/educational expenses, receive public assistance, have immigration related expenses, are a senior citizen.

*The scale is intended to be a map, inviting each of us to take inventory of our financial resources and look deeper at our levels of financial privilege. It is a way to work towards economic justice on a local level. While we ask you to look inward but please don’t stress about it. Pay what feels right.
